In 1906, three Germans founded the Montblanc brand. Their idea was to market an innovative fountain pen: a fountain pen with its own ink reservoir. Eighteen years later, in 1924, the brand became world famous for the production of the pen “Montblanc Meisterstück”. The brand remained true to its original business activities until 1997. In that year Montblanc started producing luxury watches. The Montblanc Montre S.A. department is still relatively young, but has secured a strong position at the top of watchmakers in a relatively short time. Today Montblanc watches are produced in two places in Switzerland, namely Le Locle and Villeret. Where in the former place more than 20,000 watches are made by hand, the watches from Villeret are limited to a few hundred pieces per year.
